I pretty much expect everything to be ultra-expensive in London—and it looks that way even though I'm not even there yet. The only good thing is the fact that the Canadian Dollar (CAD) has gained some ground on the UK Pound (GBP) recently; 21% by my calculations when comparing to two years ago.
In 2007:
100 GBP would have cost 228 CAD
In 2009:
100 GBP now costs 180 CAD
Still expensive, but not as bad as before at least.
